I was fired from my part time job, and the reason given was that they could not afford me and it was too quiet in the current season. But today a friend who still is employed there informed me that they were going to hire someone new, it's only been a week. Is this legal?

The company is able to fire and replace you as they see fit as long as they don't discriminate against you on the basis of a protected ground: race, colour, gender, age, disability, etc. You are owed a severance package in line with your years of service, age and position, and our severance calculator at the top of the page will help you estimate the value of your entitlements. The severance calculator is free and so is a consultation with one of our lawyers if you contact us at the number below, so I encourage you to reach out to us.
