Can I be fired for refusing to be part of a mandatory WhatsApp group at my work? The messages frequently come outside my working hours and are not usually very important. It has been negatively affecting my mental health. The owner considers it a requirement of all staff. I am a part time employee in Ontario.

An employer can terminate an employee in Ontario for any reason as long as its not discriminatory and as long as they provide you with a fair severance package based on your age, position, and length of employment. Keep in mind that WhatsApp also has a mute function for groups so you can join and just mute the group if it is bothering you.
