I was laid off and before I agreed and signed my severance package I was given a payment for 8 weeks of salary however there was a deduction for short term disability payments for those 8 weeks. If I’m escorted out of the office and I’m paid for a full 8 weeks why would I be charged STD if I no longer work there? This doesn’t seem correct and it’s s few hundred dollars that I lost.

You should be kept whole during the notice period provided, so if you were still able to access the STD during the 8 week payment in lieu of period and you have always had to pay a portion of the STD while employed, then the deduction may be legitimate. If you would like your termination package and situation reviewed, please contract our intake department to schedule an appointment.
