a member was dismissed for leaving the workplace against employer's instructions. There was a camera at the back door, but the staff redirected the camera to look at the road for approx, 1/2 hour. During that time two sets of footprints appeared on the video, leading away and them back form the parking lot. Employer is accusing the employee of leaving work even though there is no way to know who left the tracks in the snow. Snowstorm outside, staff heard what could have been a road accident - large noise - and that s why cameras were redirected. Employer claims that is proof of guilt.
If the employee is unionized, he or she should speak with their union regarding the filing of a grievance. If the employee is non-unionized, regardless of the reason for termination, the employee would be owed proper severance.
