Add Comment Question: My friend has a wrist injury from lifting over 50 pounds at work. The company, without notice, gave her WSIB leave and told her if she got better she could come back to work. There are other positions in the workplace that she could do which would not affect her injury. However, they have told her there is nothing else they can do for her. I’m wondering how long WSIB will cover her. Is it until she finds another job? I’m also wondering if there is some wrongful dismissal in doing this without notice and/or discrimination when she could easily be moved into another position within the organization that would not hurt her wrist. I believe she has been working there over two years now. Answer: Thanks for writing to us. If your friend is receiving WSIB benefits, she would have had to file a claim with the WSIB. Once a claim is filed, the WSIB monitors the claim and assists with any possible accommodations and a return to work. If there is a position available to your friend while she recovers from her injury, she should speak to her WSIB case manager or return-to-work specialist if one has been assigned. In the interim, the WSIB should continue to provide your friend with loss of earnings benefits until she is medically able to return to work. Because your friend's situation is complex, I recommend that she contact us at the number below in order to discuss her situation in further detail and seek legal advice. We would be happy to help in any way that we can. Your Comment * Your Email * Your Name * Your City Note, your name, city and email is not displayed on the website.
