Add Comment Question: I was recently released from my job after 7.5 years. In the meeting HR and my manager did not give me a reason. Just said I was not a fit for the company. I later found out that a manager complained about my attitude towards her staff and that was the reason for my dismissal. I've had a few disagreements and verbal attacks from these employees but nothing was done about it. I feel it was a prejudice decision. Answer: Thank you for your post. Generally, your employer may terminate your employment without providing you with its reason for doing so as long as they pay you an adequate severance package. That said, if an employer dismisses you for discriminatory reasons related to protected grounds under the Human Rights Code (i.e. your ethnicity, age, gender, religion, etc.), you may be entitled to additional damages. Use our Ontario Severance Pay Calculator (www.severancepaycalculator.com) to find out how much you may be owed, and give us a call at the number below to discuss your situation in more detail.
