I’m a delivery driver for a company that has three routes for which they supply delivery vehicles. I drive one full time, and I was told I’d have to give the car back and that my employment is ending on Friday September 27th because they’re “consolidating routes”, but a fellow employee told me what’s actually happening is I’m being replaced by the receptionist for the company because she doesn’t get along well with people in the office, and the boss doesn’t want to fire her. So she’s getting my job, and I’m being punished just because the boss doesn’t want to face backlash from her for being disciplined. So the boss not only lied to me about why I’m being let go, but is only letting me go because he’s too scared to let go of someone else. I’m not sure if I have grounds to complain. Thank you.
The rules around the termination of employment are different depending on whether your employer is provincially or federally regulated. Unfortunately, getting your job back is not likely even if you are fired under unfair circumstances. In general, losing your job triggers your termination entitlements which are based on your length of service, age and position.
