I was fired 2 months ago. The only reason stated on the paper for termination was probation. I was however fired right after I had to call into work because my daughter was very sick and had to be brought to the hospital. The boss ended up calling me and demanding I be at work. Then asked for me to come in for a meeting the following day. Where all the other employees already knew I was terminated. I asked for further explanation of why I was terminated in an email to which I have never received a response. Is there anything I can do? I only worked there 2 months but feel as if my termination was a direct result of my daughter having to be in the hospital which seems unjust.

Thank you for your question. My name is Jon Pinkus and I am an employment lawyer at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP.

What you have described could be both a wrongful dismissal (depending on the terms of your employment contract, if one exists), as well as a breach of your human rights on account of family status.

I would recommend that you contact us at the number below as soon as possible so that we can discuss how we can help.
