Good after noon
My name is Tanaka Chagwedera, I decided to contact you because I was looking for some consolation about work place rules.
So I was working at a restaurant called smash kitchen. A day ago and yesterday I got fired.
I was working as a line cook and in my job description I was only getting payed $15.50 and hour and plus tips and all I had to do was cook and close my station.
But recently because of the company’s lack in funds they lost there cleaners and the head chef wanted me to started doing the cleaners job. So I asked him to give me a raise because what he was asking me was way off my pay rate. Then he started to verbally abuse me through out the restaurant yelling and throwing food and work tools around me. I asked him to relax only cause it was not serious I was just asking for a raise. And then he fired me. Told me to leave. So I was confused on what I did because I never knew that you could get fired and violated for asking for a raise. Right after that I saw a couple people high 5ing him like they planned this out. He was threatening that I wouldn’t get my tip money.
I experienced things such as racism and discrimination at the workplace. From people joking about my skin colour and all sorts of other things. And I was a part time worker working more than the normal part time hours and also I told them I don’t work on the weekends yet they still scheduled me on the weekends.
The events you have described surrounding your termination sound very concerning. If you have been terminated you are very likely owed your severance entitlements. You might also be entitled to further damages stemming from the employer's breach of the Human Rights Code in regard to the discrimination in employment you have experienced.
