I work for a sporting organization who pays me a monetary stipend each game. I’m provided no water/food or break times during the course of the game and am standing outside in the heat for 6+ hrs each event. Today I received a text message stating I was no longer required. Is there grounds for wrongful dismissal and/or human rights violation? Other employees have also gone months without pay.

Thank you for your question.

If you were not provided advance notice of your termination, then depending on your age, years of service, and position you could be entitled to a significant severance package. Based on what you described there is the potential for additional damages would be owed to you, but the primary entitlement here would be to severance. Please note that you must take action within no more than exactly 2 years from the date of your notice of termination.

As such, I would recommend that you arrange a consultation with us at your earliest opportunity to discuss this matter.
